Supporting TARAs

Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents (RotherFed) can provide help and support for anyone interested in or wishing to set up a tenants and residents association (TARA) in their local community. RotherFed will help you get started, from organising your first meeting to providing a range of services and support once the group gets up and running.

TARAs are defined as “a group of people living in an area, block or street who have come together to take up issues of common concern in relation to their housing, community and general environment”. They are independent organisations run by and for local tenants and residents.

There are many types of support available from RotherFed once a TARA is up and running. Such help can include a free stationery pack for your secretary, a £200 start-up grant to help the group get up and going, a free examination of your accounts at the end of the first year and free public liability insurance and criminal record bureau checks for your members. TARAs also get the opportunity to network and meet with other tenants and residents associations and receive free one to one support and training.

Rother Fed is an independent non profit making company representing and supporting TARAs throughout Rotherham. The Federation helps new and existing groups around the borough with the campaigning skills, the resources, the independent advice and support to make such groups effective. If you would like more information or help starting up a TARA please contact us.
