Council House Management
The RotherFed Executive Board meeting on Tuesday 13 October 2009 agreed unanimously to send the following resolution to the Minister of Housing:
"The Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents request the Minister, the DCLG and the Government to consider the imposition of a moratorium of at least 10 years on the sale of any new council houses built by Rotherham MBC under the current arrangement so as to alleviate any further pressures on the current housing waiting list of some 17,600 in Rotherham, as confirmed by the Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Housing at the Delegates Meeting"

The last delegates meeting was on 8th September 2009 and discussed opportunities to build new council and social housing in Rotherham. The panel of speakers were Rt.Hon John Healey MP, Minister of Housing, David Curtis, Yorkshire and Humber Regional Director of the Homes and Community Agency, Cllr Jahangir Akhtar Cabinet Member of Neighbourhoods from RMBC Matthew Spittles from 2010 Rotherham. The government has given the go-ahead for 2,000 council houses to be built across England.

Tenants and residents made it very clear that they wished to be fully involved in Council House Directions . 50 people attended this open meeting addressed by Cllr Jahangir Akhtar, RMBC Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods which also included a short workshop discussing how tenants wish to be involved in the future management of council housing following the completion of Decent Homes.
