New Laughton Common TARA
Secretary: Romney Bell
The next Laughton Common TARA meeting is next Monday 26th July 6pm at The Gallows
We are also holding a RACE NIGHT at The Gallows Public House on Saturday 24th July to raise funds to go towards children’s equipment for the local play areas. We feel as a group, that children need somewhere to play and that better facilities are needed on the play areas. Instead of complaining about our children we are trying to supply them with the things we took for granted while growing up. For many children today opportunities for playgrounds no longer exist. A lot has happened over the years and many local woods/fields, natural spots have been redeveloped with buildings and roads leaving very few play areas. This has affected children’s opportunities to play, develop and co-operate, to use their own initiative and master challenges. Also families are spending less time together. Natural playgrounds can influence physical activity and creative play which keeps children and young adults entertained. If you can recall as a child hiding behind trees, building dens, digging holes and scrambling up and down grassy banks, going to the local rec with your friend and family, then you have been lucky and already experienced a natural playground. And it must have been great if you still remember it. Will today’s children remember their own play experiences in quite the same way when they are adults themselves? So far we have raised £300 towards equipment but this need’s to be a lot more. We are looking for sponsors for the night, we are holding 8 races and it cost just £10 for a sponsor for each race. Or even if prizes can be donated that would be a great help. All are welcome on the night and hopefully it will be a fun night to help raise funds. If you can help us out in any way or would like to attend please contact us on the above number or email .

Laughton Common Village Tree
The village tree is being planted for all residents of Laughton Common. It is in memory of the people in the past that made the village the strong community it was. It represents all present residents fighting and succeeding to get the community spirit back. And all future residents that will feel the benefit of all the hard work it takes to be a community to be proud of. Donated by the New Laughton Common Co-Op working together with Laughton Common New TARA.
This TARA is working with partners to engage young people with the aim of creating a youth section in the near future. Details of the public arts project being undertaken by Gillian Brant can be found here.
