Connecting Communities

Campaign Company Draft Report - pdf link

Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents (RotherFed) has been working with all partners and tenants and residents in Birks Holt on developing various small community activities in the area . We aim to support community engagement and involvement around the needs of the community and are therefore particularly interested in supporting activities where community members take the lead. We are also keen on linking community members from Birks Holt with other TARAs and community groups around the Borough.

The peppercorn lease for the Cherry Tree Community House at 23 and 25 Lee Croft will soon come to an end and we are working closely with our member Birks Holt TARA to help them develop the sustainability of this building. There are two excellent youth clubs run at 23 Lee Croft but at present little other activity and hardly any income as number 25 falls into increased disrepair.

The TARA has now had their accounts examined and a new committee is up for  increasing  the community support for the building and the activities run there making it a safe and welcome place for all.

Our Youth Engagement Officer Julie Sanders  organised a fun visit for young people to Rother Fed’s base at Springwell Gardens Community Centre in Eastwood on Friday 19th February 2010. 15 young people from Birks Holt had a great time, undertaking crafts, graffiti painting, games and enjoying a lunch prepared by our Volunteer Events Committee. Julie will be continuing to work with young people and community members in the community supporting them to engage in voluntary activity and with partners during the next month. She is working with other partners on organising a number of community trips during the summer.

Training activities were held between  April and  June , open to community members in Birks Holt and elsewhere to help build the capacity of community volunteers to organise and have a say in the future of their area. Bill Horrocks from TINA training has donesome work with interested residents on developing communications and resolving conflict. We help one day courses on emergency first aid training on Wednesday 10th March and Safeguarding Children and Effective Communication in April. We are also organising a Northern College residential at the end of  June 2010 called Connecting Communities- Your Stories - more details

RotherFed aims to link and support community members from different tenants and resident associations (TARAs) and community groups around Rotherham. We welcome the networking that groups between areas undertake in building their capacity and in training and support community members from different areas linking up to enable success of this project. RotherFed is a non profit making company (no.5913521). If you would like to be involved or updated on how we are supporting Connecting Communities please contact us
